Mexican American Component
While its holdings reflect the
spectrum of South Texas culture, Special Collections
& Archives places particular emphasis on
Mexican-American topics. Its book collections
contain materials on the Mexican-American experience
and include titles by Alonso S. Perales, J.T.
Canales, and other distinguished authors.
In addition to the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers,
the division includes the papers and books of such
civic leaders as Rafael, Sr. and Virginia Galvan,
Dr.
Clotilde P. Garcia, E.E. Mireles and Jovita
Gonzalez Mireles, Tony Bonilla, Ruben Bonilla,
Jr., Antonio Rodriguez Fuentes
and Josephina Barrera Fuentes, Eddie Cavazos,
Rodolfo and Dora Cervera
Mirabal, and Oscar G. Flores, as well as records
of such
groups as the American G.I. Forum, the Spanish
American Genealogical
Association (SAGA), the League of United Latin
American Citizens (LULAC), and
the Westside Business Association.
