Joseph A. Hans, Jr. was an accomplished, versatile architect who practiced in Corpus Christi from the early 1950s until his death in 1983. A naval veteran of World War II, Hans graduated with an architectural degree from Texas A&M University at College Station. After coming to Corpus Christi, he worked alone as well as within the firm of Joseph Hans & Associates, AIA with such notable architects as Ralph Bennett, Jack Solka, and others. Hans was 56 years old at the time of his death.

Hans was involved in a number of Corpus Christi landmarks including the Cliff House Apartments and original Padre Staples Mall. He did much work for automobile dealerships and churches, the latter being the structures he most favored.

His papers comprise seven document cases of files and 104 rolls of his architectural drawings. His papers comprise seven document cases of files and 104 rolls of his architectural drawings.
